Regarding the "new atmosphere" at Jewel, not only are we now bombarded by TV commercials while shopping there, but notice what we don't get anymore?#34;music?#34;and notice how the feel among the shoppers has changed.
The Lake Street Jewel used to be a classy place; people would noticeably dress up to shop there. And shoppers smiled at each other and showed consideration, friendliness, manners toward each other. It felt almost like Borders: a place you wanna be just because you wanna be there. You agree to read and buy books/groceries because it feels so good to be there. Meeting your neighbor at Jewel (or bumping into a potential date?) were hidden perks in shopping.
Not any more. Why bother? It's just another place now?#34;just another place that wants our money.
