Gilbert "Gil" Hugh Weinstein, 83, an Oak Park resident for over 41 years, died on Jan. 22, 2012. Born on Nov. 27, 1929 in Chicago to Edwin and Rose Weinstein, he grew up in the Kenwood neighborhood and attended the University of Illinois at Navy Pier.
In his youth, he was a record shop clerk in Hyde Park before venturing into recording and film production. He worked in Chicago for Standard Photo, Sound Studios, and Filmack Studios. Filmack became his mainstay, where he spent 35 years as a studio engineer producing film trailers and commercials.
He enjoyed listening to and collecting music, going to movies, reading, crossword puzzles, rooting for the Chicago Cubs and Bears, as well as spending time with loved ones and his pets. Family and friends say they will remember his wit, charm and sense of humor.
Gil Weinstein is survived by his children, Mark (Kim) Spicer, Stephen (Amy) Spicer, and Elizabeth Weinstein (Carina Farrero); his grandchildren Elise, Ciara, Abby, Emma, Sarah and William; and his nephews, Paul and Adam Weinstein. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Howard.
A private memorial will be held in the spring.
