District 97 is expected to name a new superintendent Friday night, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. at a special meeting of the Board of Education to be held at Dist. 97 headquarters at 907 Madison St. The new superintendent will replace John Fagan, who is retiring after serving as Dist. 97 superintendent for 17 years.
The board began its search process last May and identified five finalists. After initial interviews one month ago, the board narrowed the lists of finalists to three who then were interviewed again by the board.
All of the applicants were from other districts. The names of the finalists have not been released.
"We're nearing the end; news will be forthcoming," said board member Marcia Frank at Wednesday's school board meeting. Frank, along with fellow board member Bob Walsh, headed the search committee, which also included staff, teachers, and parents.
