Jeannine L. DeRose Ihrig, Ph.D., 71, died on Jan. 21, 2011. Born in Chicago on Nov. 5, 1939, she was a lifelong resident of Oak Park and River Forest. All who knew her well remember these times with affection and mourn her passing after a prolonged illness. Her life was dedicated to serving family, friends and the students at Oak Park and River Forest High School in the Special Education Department, as a school psychologist and later as a dean. Jeannine had a healthy sense of who she was. Before receiving her Ph.D., she was often referred to by her associates as "Misty Rose" (Ms. DeRose). I'm sure she would want me to thank retired dean Dan McHugh for this distinguished moniker.
Her accomplishments were many, but her intelligence and gentle nature were appreciated most by her family, many friends and acquaintances and those students and parents who were part of her professional life at OPRF.
The story of our love and friendship should be told accompanied by romantic music, soft lights and a great wine.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank so many who supported us over the entire length of her illness: our family; our wonderful caregivers, Jessica Ossman and family, Maria Eusebio and Melba Flores; the staff and volunteers at Rainbow Hospice for their tireless support; the prayers of St. Edmund Parish staff, parishioners and choir; neighbors and old friends hosting weekly dinners; OPRF staff; and many acquaintances. Please accept our deepest gratitude and a well-aimed air hug to each of you. Oak Park-River Forest — what a wonderful place to live.
Jeannine Ihrig is survived by her husband, James Ihrig; Pamela and Christopher Kentra and sons, Jason and Matthew; Christine and Victor Lees and son, Graeme; and her daughter, Anna Jeannine and her son, Charles Tarochione; her sister, Sharlene Lissuzzo (Russell) and her four children and grandchildren; and her sister-in-law Nancy DeRose (Anthony) and her three daughters and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Eileen DeRose; her brother, Anthony; and her first husband, Charles Tarochione.
Rest in peace, my darling girl.
