I am writing in support of Carolyn Newberry Schwartz, who recently announced her candidacy for reelection to the District 97 School Board.
In the near future, we will have a new superintendent and continuing, if not worsening, funding issues that the board will need to address. We are extremely lucky that Carolyn, with her extensive knowledge and excellent judgment, has agreed to run again as a board member and provide us with the continuity we need.
I have known Carolyn for many years and had the pleasure of working with her on the District 97 Legislative Advocacy Committee. In working to create the Legislative Committee, Carolyn worked hard to bring together parents, school staff, community members, and school board members to advocate with our legislators for increased state funding.
In her first term on the board, Carolyn has also worked to stabilize District 97 spending without compromising educational programs, and establish the Collaboration for Early Childhood Care and Education, a program helps children prepare for entry into school.
If re-elected, Carolyn will work to promote academic achievement, improve District 97's financial health, and provide accountability. Carolyn's leadership skills, insight, and experience will help the board to tackle the upcoming challenges to keep our schools strong. I ask that you vote for Carolyn Newberry Schwartz on April 5.
