Catherine R. Holmes, 95, of Oak Park, died in her home on Jan. 15, 2012. Born in Chicago on Nov. 21, 1916, she graduated from Marshall High School in Chicago. In 1953, she married Edward Holmes, a Chicago police officer who died in 1983.
Mrs. Holmes was a resident of Oak Park for over 40 years. She was active with St. Edmund Parish, the 19th Century Charitable Association and the Historical Society of Oak Park-River Forest.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Shirley (Dean) Rogers of River Forest. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Cameron. Survivors also include four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for this Friday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Edmund Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Edmund, followed by interment at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Donations to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers are appreciated. Arrangements were handled by Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home in Oak Park.
