Better communication

Last week's snowstorms and dangerous cold took its toll on the Chicago area, Oak Park and other suburban communities. Oak Park came through it, but not everyone in town escaped the storm's wrath unscathed. The Oak Park Post Office suffered delays in delivering mail and faced customers' criticism for not keeping them better informed about that problem. Those mail carriers on the front line who were able to come to work did their jobs admirably. Officials on the back end, however, could have done better in communicating with customers. It was not the post office's finest moment overall. But this isn't about pointing fingers or taking anyone to the woodshed. This should be a time to figure out solutions now, in case this ever happens again. Social media has become a go-to source for people in such crises. That needs to be one of the ways to keep customers up-to-date in the future.
