OPRF wrestling slips past Sandburg

With both teams not being at full capacity, the second-ranked OPRF wrestling team and top-ranked Sandburg went at it during an eight-team tournament on Saturday and the result was a 27-24 Huskies win.
Minus Matt Rundell, Kamal Bey and Emonte Logan, OPRF won eight bouts against a Sandburg squad that was missing the bulk of its team in Sebastian Pique, Jim Pellegrino, Alante Walker and Nate Sonnevald.
OPRF's Davonte Mahomes (160-pound weight class), Joe Ariola (182), Adam Lempke-Bell (285), Gabe Townsell (113), Isaiah White (126), Larry Early (132), Jake O'Mara (138), and John Gahagan (145) all won their respective weight divisions. O'Mara forced a technical fall on Sandburg's Tom Slattery at 3:12 to take back the team lead and Gahagan closed out OPRF's win with a 5-4 decision over Tom Brennan.
OPRF hosts its own invitational on Saturday, Jan. 19, beginning at 8 a.m.
