Purse-grabbers arrested by Oak Park police
Oak Park police arrested two Chicago men, Jan. 6, who they believe were involved in at least two area robberies.
A 24-year-old woman told police she was approached by two men in a silver Nissan Armada near Ashland Avenue and Augusta Street, the afternoon of Jan. 4. One of the men exited the vehicle, pushed her to the ground and took her purse before fleeing the area in the van, River Forest police said.
Detectives noticed a similarity with other area incidents. In Oak Park, a woman described similar circumstances when her purse was grabbed off her shoulder while she walked eastbound on Jackson Boulevard, approaching Carpenter Street on the afternoon of Jan. 6.
The same day, Marlone M. Owens, 21, and Joseph H. Treadwell, 27, were arrested. They face felony robbery charges. Police believe they may be involved in additional robberies in Chicago.
An unknown offender removed a silver laptop computer from a residence in the 800 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, Jan. 2. Estimated loss is $3,250.
Someone removed a 37-inch black flat screen TV, an Apple black TV receiver, a black Xbox 360 console and 20 Xbox games, a Nintendo Wii console and 10 Wii games, an Apple iPhone and a white box containing passports, birth certificates and social security cards from a residence in the 1200 block of North Grove Avenue, Dec. 23-Jan. 2. Estimated loss is $2,800.
An unknown offender entered the window of a residence in the 1100 block of Clinton Avenue, Jan. 5, and removed two laptop computers, cash and a men's 18-speed bicycle. Estimated loss is $4,050.
A passenger on the CTA Blue Line train reported being bothered by another passenger Jan. 2. After exiting, the offender hugged him in the 700 block of South Austin Boulevard, purportedly to make up for his behavior and removed a Blackberry cellphone from the victim's jacket pocket. Estimated loss is $400.
Someone removed a wallet from an unattended coat in the back storeroom of Oak Park Pet & Fish in the first block of North Harlem Avenue, Jan. 5. Estimated loss is $1,850.
An unknown person removed a Hewlett Packard netbook computer from a Honda CRV in the garage of a residence in the 700 block of North Ridgeland Avenue, Jan. 7-8. Estimated loss is $400.
Three unknown men were observed on a security video breaking the door to Radio Shack in the 900 block of Madison Street, Jan. 6. Offenders removed an RCA TV, a Vizio TV and seven AT&T cellphones.
Someone removed a silver Apple iPhone, Jan. 8, from behind the cashier's counter of Radio Shack in the 900 block of Madison Street and exited without paying. Estimated loss is $800.
Three offenders pulled a victim to the ground in the 1100 block of South Lombard Avenue, Jan. 2, pointed a gun at him and demanded his money. The victim surrendered his shoulder bag containing a cellphone, cash and IDs before the offenders fled southbound on Lombard. Estimated loss is $180.
On Jan. 6, an unknown person struck a woman walking northbound on Austin Boulevard in the back of the head and removed her purse from her left coat pocket before fleeing southbound. Estimated loss is $50.
Motor vehicle theft
An unknown person removed a blue 2004 Honda Accord from a garage in the 400 block of Wesley Avenue, Jan. 3. Estimated loss is $7,500.
An unknown person removed a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass from a parking lot in the first block of Washington Boulevard, Jan. 5. Estimated loss is $20,000.
Criminal damage to vehicle
An unknown person slashed four tires on a silver Infinity parked in the 300 block of West Chicago Avenue, Jan. 4-5. Estimated damage is $600.
Driving under the influence
A 60-year-old Chicago woman was arrested for driving under the influence, Jan. 5, in the 7800 block of Madison Street after she hit a vehicle in the 1000 block of Washington Boulevard and fled the scene. Patricia Little, of the 4900 block of Washington Boulevard, was released after posting bond.
A 40-year-old Bartlett man was arrested for driving under the influence after police found 1.3 grams of heroin inside his car in the 1000 block of South East Avenue, Jan. 6, while he was passed out in the driver's seat. Matthew L. Koch, of the 600 block of Fairway Drive, was taken to Oak Park Hospital.
These items were obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, Jan. 3-9, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
