A HOME LIKE ENVIRONMENT - A LANDMARK HISTORIC BUILDING

The Day Nursery's program is located in an 8,000-square-foot building built in 1926 specifically for the Day Nursery and its program. The building has five classrooms, an industrial-sized kitchen, a large dining room, several restrooms, an indoor playground, a large outdoor playground, and administrative offices. This large building allows the children to be separated into small, age-related groups in a home-like environment, with a teacher-student ratio of 1 to 7.  All children receive a freshly prepared breakfast and lunch, a daily nap, and a mid-afternoon snack.

A QUALITY PROGRAM AND STAFF

The Day Nursery offers an age-appropriate, recognized, play-based early childhood curriculum (Creative Curriculum) taught by a caring, professional staff; regular communication with families; and monthly parent meetings that help support families with resources they need to be actively involved in their children's development and learning.

Teacher quality and training is important to the Day Nursery's program. Several of the teachers have Bachelors Degrees and Masters Degrees in Early Childhood Education.  Currently three teachers have Type O4 Early Childhood Certification through the State of Illinois. The rest of the teachers and assistant teachers have at least 12 hours of Early Childhood coursework and at least 2 years of experience working with young children. In addition, all teachers and teacher assistants must earn 20 hours in-service credit annually of additional training at relevant workshops, conferences or classes.

ACCREDITED BY NAEYC

The Day Nursery is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  NAEYC is the prestigious national organization working to improve the well being of young children by ensuring high quality educational and developmental services: http://www.naeyc.org

A UNIQUE HISTORY - 100 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

In 1912 a group of socially conscious women started the Oak Park & River Forest Day Nursery to provide full-time, quality child care to working women in the community. This core mission has continued until today. The Day Nursery serves families of all income levels, races, religions, ethnicities, and educational backgrounds from Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park and surrounding communities.

I am so happy our son is at The Day Nursery. They have helped our whole family in countless ways. The Day Nursery helped us make a transition to full time childcare when we needed it, and found a part-time spot for us when we needed to switch back. My son will have two years with teachers who have Master's in Early Childhood. And the creativity and love pours over the edges. I'm so thankful to all of the staff that has helped us all grow up happily through early childhood.
