Chicago Gourmets is a fifteen-year-old group of food enthusiasts who organize events that focus on local menus and signature dishes prepared especially by chefs and served in a private setting.
This coming Saturday, March 16, Chicago Gourmets has organized a tour of Oak Park's Unity Temple followed by a dinner at Eyrie. This four-course dinner will be based on recipes from the Fallingwater Cookbook, prepared by Robert Morris University's culinary student staff.
Fallingwater, as most Oak Parkers likely know, is a private residence in Pennsylvania built over a waterfall that powerfully demonstrates Frank Lloyd Wright's ability to integrate architectural design with a natural environment.
The Fallingwater Cookbook was written by Suzanne Martinson, formerly of the Pittsburgh Press and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and it contains recipes from Elsie Henderson, who was the Kaufman family cook at Fallingwater. The special Eyrie menu for this event includes appropriately aquatic offerings such as smoked trout on thin crust pizza and crab salad.
