Holiday Cocktails: Cointreau Rickey

Pretty simple...and very Christmas-y

I've posted before about burlesque queen Dita Von Tesse and her Cointreau Rickey.

Last week, Von Tesse "taught" an online video seminar focused on the making her signature drink. Cointreau sent me all the ingredients so I'd be able to make the drink at home while watching Von Tesse do the same on my computer screen. Watching the lovely Ms. Von Tesse making drinks is not hard work.

The Cointreau Rickey is pretty simple to put together:

1. Muddle mint leaves (be gentle; too much muddling brings out the bitterness)

2. Add 1 jigger fresh lime juice to 2 jiggers of Cointreau (fresh citrus juice is critical; it has the pop and brightness that bottled juice cannot hope to retain)

3. Add mint and lime to a glass; drop in some blackberries and raspberries, and fill with sparkling water

4. Garnish with orange slice

I served this drink to some family members, and although everyone liked it (including me), there's a summery feel to this drink that seems just slightly out of step with the season…though the red berries and green mint are, indeed, very Christmas-y.
