National Sandwich Day is celebrated this coming Sunday, November 3, and a fine way to recognize this holiday is at Duran European Sandwiches Café. This Viennese-inspired sandwich shop in West Town takes the opportunity to recognize the holiday by raising funds for the Chicago Artists Coalition.

If you visit Duran's on Saturday or Sunday, 50% of the proceeds go to the Chicago Artists Coalition. Duran is also exhibiting works of art from several of the city's most notable geometric abstraction artists, including Wasyl Kacurovsky, Lialia Kuchma, Jurij Strutynsky, and Stanley Tigerman.

We visited Duran's earlier this year, shortly after it opened, and we were intrigued by the small, open-faced compositions. There was incredible care and craftsmanship put into each sandwich. Duran sandwiches are edible works of art.
