The use of drug-sniffing dogs and random drug testing of Oak Park and River Forest High School students drew support among the 60 people attending a community substance abuse forum Wednesday night at River Forest Community Center.
Yesica Sanchez is as much a cheerleader as an intern on this particular afternoon at the Oak Park Arms, helping to run its Friday game of miniature golf at the senior residential community. The lounge area has been turned into a putting course. Sanchez, a 23-year-old social work student at Dominican University, retrieves golf balls and gives them back to the players.
District 97 earlier this year approved an ambitious, wide-ranging technology plan. But new Supt. Albert Roberts would like to spend even more in that area if the district gets a referendum approved this spring.
Dress rehearsals for 9-year-old Sarah Parton begin next week, but this isn't some tiny tot's school play. The Irving School fourth-grader will join three other youth from Oak Park and surrounding western suburbs performing in Joffrey Ballet's The Nutcracker this month in Chicago.
