A question has been raised by an Oak Park resident, as well as the township assessor, about the accuracy of District 97's April 5 referendum ballot question and whether it underestimates how much property owners will actually pay in added taxes if it passes.
Parents with kids attending Oak Park and River Forest High School will be required to pay a $340 per-student fee for books and materials starting in the upcoming school year if a proposal submitted last month to the school board is approved. The fee would replace the wide-ranging out-of-pocket textbook costs which most parents now pay.
One member of the District 200 Board of Education definitely thinks Oak Park and River Forest High School's campus should be closed whereas another says it won't solve the issue of kids using drugs at the high school.

Brooks Middle School was the winner in the 6th Annual Vex Robotics competition between Oak Park's two middle schools. The event is sponsored each year by the Oak Park Education Foundation. This year's competition took place at Julian Middle School, 416 S. Ridgeland.
