Oak Park's Alcuin Montessori School became the second chartered Montessori school in the nation in 1961. Last Friday, a few of its remaining founders were honored by the school during a ceremony recognizing Alcuin's 50th anniversary.
Last year, Irving Elementary School's PTO raised about $10,000 from its first annual spring yard sale at the school, 1125 S. Cuyler. Judging from the hundreds of items that were available for the second annual sale last Saturday, May 14, the PTO may reach, or even top, that mark.
Every family with children attending District 97 schools will have to prove their residency to re-enroll for the upcoming school year. Until now, only new families had to provide documentation to show they're residents of Oak Park.
It took a little longer than expected for John Phelan to join the District 200 Board of Education as its new member during the board's April 28 reorganization meeting. The new board was not seated until after 10 p.m. The old board had to take care of some business in executive session.
New and reelected members of the District 97 school board were sworn in this week. The board was originally set to be reconstituted last week but the district's election results were not yet certified by the Cook County Clerk in the time for an April 26 meeting.
