'Sorrow Road' with Julia Keller
Thursday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m., Oak Park Public Library Veterans Room:
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Julia Keller shares stories from her newest mystery, Sorrow Road. Seventy-five years ago, three young men from a small town in West Virginia were among the American forces participating in D-Day, changing the fortunes of the war with one bold stroke. How is that moment aboard a Navy ship as it barrels toward the Normandy shore related to the death of an old man in an Appalachian nursing home? In 2005, Keller, a former Chicago Tribune writer, won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing for a three-part narrative series that ostensibly was about the aftermath of a deadly tornado, but in truth was an exploration of how we reckon with the randomness of fate. Centuries & Sleuths Book Store will have books for sale and signing.
