For nearly 20 years, during his career as a newspaper reporter, Matt Baron covered numerous races for local political office. But in December he resolved to go from chronicler to campaigner, filing the election documents necessary to appear on the April 9th ballot for trustee on the Oak Park Public Library Board. He is one of five candidates vying for four open seats.
Oak Park is at a crossroads. The decisions made now will determine whether we remain a Village true to our core values of fairness, diversity and equal opportunity for all, or we become a village that has created a barrier to entry based solely on economics.
Having lived most of my adult life in Oak Park, I know this to be a highly intelligent and principled community; a village of leaders from diverse professional fields; with a populace dedicated to volunteerism and community service.
As the parent of a graduating senior, I have direct experience with Oak Park River Forest High School. My daughter had a wonderful experience at the high school that has prepared her for matriculation at some of the nation's best colleges.
