The Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation invites nominations for our third annual Excellence in Philanthropy awards. These awards honor those who demonstrate significant philanthropic impact in Oak Park-River Forest.
The overnight parking ban will not be enforced on most Oak Park residential streets over the Labor Day weekend. Overnight restrictions will be lifted at 2:30 a.m., Sat., Sept. 1, and resume at 2:30 a.m., Wed., Sept. 5.
As you may recall, the Irving PTO nominated Mr. Frank DiPaolo last spring for the Illinois State Board of Education's "Those Who Excel Awards." Frank recently received word that he won an Award of Meritorious Service in the Educational Support Personnel Category of these awards.
River Forest's Dominican University has received the 2012 Community Change Maker award from PASO, a Spanish acronym which translates as the West Suburban Action Project, in recognition of the university's support for undocumented students.
Loyola University Health System (LUHS) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and official blessing of the new Loyola Center for Metabolic Surgery & Bariatric Care. "Loyola bariatric specialists including surgeons, physicians, psychologists, nutritionists and exercise physiologists offer patients tailored surgical and non-surgical treatment for weight-related health conditions," said Bipan Chand, MD, director of the new center.
Elizabeth Diskin of Oak Park won an August writing contest sponsored by Midlife Collage. In her short story, "The Long and Winding Road" Elizabeth cycles 100 miles for charity through the California wine country.
West Suburban Medical Center recently announced it has partnered with Associated Physicians of Rehabilitation to oversee West Suburban's Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Center. Rahul Sharma, M.D., Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation has been named to the position of Medical Director of the Rehabilitation Center at West Suburban Medical Center.
