As the track and field regular season winds down — just one meet left before the West Suburban (Silver) Conference Meet — and the OPRF boys team preps to make a run at a possible Class 3A state title or Top 5 finish, we recently caught up with one of the Huskies’ stars, Malachy Schrobilgen.
In John Drury’s classic Dining in Chicago, published in 1931, this early food journalist records his impressions of many old Chicago area restaurants. Drury also mentions three Oak Park dining establishments that seemed to be doing well in the Thirties despite the Great Depression. Perhaps, given the emphasis upon tea, Prohibition may actually have been good for these three village businesses.
Single-family home prices dropped in both Oak Park and River Forest in the fourth quarter of last year, but not quite as severely as other communities in the region. And the overall rate of decline is now slowing.
