On May 17, Nicor Gas representatives will present the West Cook YMCA with a large check for $25,000, in recognition of over 500 Oak Park residents who participated in Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program as part of the Community Challenge.
The Nineteenth Century Charitable Association Awarded two scholarships at its annual Award Luncheon on May 6. The Scholarship Committee presented four-year renewable scholarships to Oak Park and River Forest High School Seniors Margaret Blaha and Shourouk Abdalla at the association's Oak Park headquarters. OPRFHS Superintendent Dr. Steven Isoye, Head Dean Peter Nixon, counselor Carolyn Ojikutu and assistants Sharon Martinek and Kim Asbury were also present.
On April 26 and 27, students and staff members from Percy Julian Middle School and Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School raised more than $3100 for Misericordia in conjunction with the organization's 28th Annual Candy Days.
