Among this week's list of "things I learned at the Oak Park Village Board meeting," this is one of my favorites so far: Citizen Involvement Commission members wear red sashes. It's an odd, unique little thing that caught my attention.
The legendary Oak Park record store, Val's halla celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. The shop hit its share of struggles during that notable year, but thanks to the dedication of owner Val Camilletti and her loyal fan base, the store kept its doors open.
Oak Park Trustee Ray Johnson used his time at the end of the July 22 board meeting to address the alarming pattern of violence in the area, specifically following the news of the third teen from Oak Park who was shot and killed last week.
Greenline Wheels, 105 Marion St., got a visit Tuesday from a celebrity who used to call Oak Park home. Johnny Galecki, best known for his role as David in the sitcom "Roseanne," Rusty Griswold in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," and most recently as Leonard in "The Big Bang Theory."
