Buffalo Trace has done some extensive work in testing the effects of barrel wood, charring and aging. They've also tweaked and refined their mash bills (recipes), assessing the consequences of using various grains in addition to the requisite corn. Warehouse X represents a major step forward in evaluating the effects of the environment upon bourbon.
Frank Lipo, executive director of the Historical Society of Oak Park-River Forest, received the 2013 Community Service Award from the Park District of Oak Park for the years of historical information he has provided on parks and facilities for a number of programs and projects.
A memorial concert, a special remembrance of Rev. Julie Harley with music, poetry and scripture, will take place this Sunday, March 2, at 4 p.m. at 848 Lake St. The concert, led by First United musicians and Chancel Choir, is offered in thanksgiving of the life and witness of Harley, former pastor of First United Church of Oak Park, who died recently of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). A reception to thank Julie's caregivers will precede the concert.
