I was surprised to read that a March review of job figures in the Chicago Tribune reported that Oak Park's unemployment was 5.6% --- much lower than the greater Chicago area's 8.9%. Oak Park has a relatively high percentage of college graduates who have been less impacted by the recession.
It is a reminder that the less affluent, less educated have been hurt more than everyone else. This will contribute to the growing gap between the rich and the poor in this country which will have greater and greater consequences for the nation.
