Congratulations to Fenwick 6-foot-5 shooting guard/swingman Scott Lindsey who verbally committed to Northwestern over the weekend. Lindsey is the fourth commitment, along with highly regarded forward Victor Law (St. Rita), forward Gavin Skelly and point guard Bryant McIntosh, that the Wildcats have picked up under new head coach Chris Collins.
Lindsey also considered Vanderbilt, Iowa, Indiana State, Drake and Nevada among other Division I options, before choosing the Wildcats. The allure of playing Big 10 basketball close to home at an excellent academic institution like NU lined up as the best fit for Lindsey.
He is regarded as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and played AAU basketball with Illinois Old School last summer. Along with center Dan Dwyer and promising sophomore point guard Michael Smith, Lindsey leads the Friars into the upcoming season with high expectations. The arrival of new head coach Rich Malnati, who replaced John Quinn after a long and successful coaching stint, also has the Fenwick basketball program abuzz.
As an incredibly versatile and athletic player, Lindsey should flourish in Malnati's system which puts a premium on defense and fundamentals.
I'll be writing an expanded story about Lindsey's upcoming campaign with the Friars and bright future at NU in next week's Wednesday Journal.
