The Oak Park Area Lesbian and Gay Association (OPALGA) and Organization for Action (OFA) will co-host a marriage equality town hall meeting and rally at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 at the Oak Park Carleton Hotel, 1110 Pleasant St.
The two organizations are combining forces to bolster awareness and gain support for a stalled bill in the state House, which would grant same-sex couples the right to marry in Illinois.
Other groups that support the Religious Freedom and Marriage Equality Act are Illinois Unites, Lambda Legal and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Illinois Unites staff will be present at the meeting and rally.
If the bill passes, Illinois would become the 14th state to approve same-sex marriage.
