St. Paul Thai Lutheran Church in Forest Park is having a meeting tomorrow with a representative from PADS to talk about the Thai congregation hosting the PADS transitional summer program Aug. 20-31.
A hundred and fifty years ago mainline churches were sending missionaries to Thailand and now Christians from Thailand are doing some of the heavy lifting to take care of our problems here in the U.S.
That, along with the awareness that the pastor of St. Bernardine Catholic Church was born in India and the new pastor of St. Catherine-St. Lucy Catholic Church in Oak Park, reminds us that the flow of "missionaries" has become a two way street. Right now, more Christians live south of the equator than in the Northern Hemisphere.
In 2009 nine priests were ordained in the Archdiocese of Chicago and NONE of them was born in this country.
I'm not sure what this means. What do you think?
