SPRINGFIELD, IL – James G. Meyer, an attorney in the law firm of Ialongo & Meyer in Chicago; Jonathan P. Tomes, an attorney licensed in Illinois and other states; and River Forest resident Lee Neubecker, a computer forensics expert and president of Forensicon, Inc. in Chicago, are the authors of "Electronic Medical Records: Metadata As Evidence in Litigation," an article which appears in the August 2013 issue of the Illinois Bar Journal, the monthly magazine of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA).
In the article, the authors provide an overview of "electronic medical records" (EMR) and its definition under HIPPA, where EMR and its associated metadata can be found, examples of the kinds of detail that can be found in EMR, the limits of data encryption, and the discoverability and admissibility of EMR and metadata.
The 32,000-member ISBA (isba.org), with offices in Springfield and Chicago, provides professional services to Illinois lawyers, and education and services to the public through a website (illinoislawyerfinder.com), consumer brochures, and distribution of legal information.
