River Forest's Dominican University has received the 2012 Community Change Maker award from PASO, a Spanish acronym which translates as the West Suburban Action Project, in recognition of the university's support for undocumented students.

According to a statement from the school, Dominican supports the rights of undocumented students to fulfill their potential through education. Under the leadership of President Donna Carroll and with the encouragement of other Catholic organizations, the school has opened its doors and private financial resources to deserving, undocumented students.

Dominican proudly claims several students who have been instrumental in the passage of the Illinois DREAM Act, which allows undocumented students who have attended Illinois schools or served in the military to become citizens and voters.
