Folk music singer/songwriters Lauren Heintz and Andrew McKnight visit Oak Park for two soulful musical performances, both free, open to the public, and beginning at 7 pm at the Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake St., Oak Park.
Heintz, performing Thursday, Sept. 11, is quickly becoming known for intricate and effortless finger-style guitar, distinctively deep vocals, and heartfelt and hope-filled original songs. Earlier this year, she amazed the judges and audiences at the South Florida Folk Festival Singer/Songwriter Competition and won the 2014 Vic Heyman songwriting award.
McKnight, performing Thursday, Oct. 16, is a nationally-acclaimed singer/songwriter and guitarist, weaving his masterfully crafted songs, humorous stories and poetic drama into a musical soundscape sketched with shades of Appalachia, tasteful slide and jazzy blues, feisty anthems, and rustic folk. Since permanently leaving his corporate environmental engineering career in 1996, McKnight's musical journey has traced more than half a million miles of blue highways, and earned him a wealth of critical acclaim and enthusiastic fans for his captivating performances and five CDs.
The Fall Folk Music Concert Series is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Oak Park Public Library. The artists' CDs are typically available for sale at all performances.
The Friends of the Oak Park Public Library, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, have been building bridges between library and community, and raising funds to help sponsor library programs and services since 1948. Learn more at oppl.org/friends.
