The Neighborhood Giving Project will partner with the Oak Park Public Library and PCC Community Wellness Center to kick off their 2014-15 service season.

PCC Community Wellness Center provides comprehensive medical services for uninsured or under-insured families in Cook County
Our project directly benefits their"Reach Out and Read" Literacy Program:
  • New books are "prescribed" to every child in their annual well check up. Each child receives a brand new Scholastic book to take home, and the importance of reading is discussed in the check-up.
  • Used books are available for any children to read, or be read to, during any appointment.
  • Volunteers model reading behavior, by reading books aloud to children gathered there, or allowing children to read to them.

1) DROP OFF GENTLY USED BOOKS at The Oak Park Public Library, Main Branch. A designated box will be available in the 1st floor Children's Area, Sept. 2 through the 6th. Consider including a thoughtful bookmark from your child(ren).

2) JOIN OUR BAKE SALE! We will host a charitable bake sale on Saturday, Sept. 6, Oak Park Public Library, Scoville Square. Baked goods and sellers of all ages needed! 100% of the donation jar will go to PCC Community Wellness Center in Austin. New Scholastic books cost PCC approx $2-2.80 each. By raising just $250, we will provide 100 NEW BOOKS to the center.
3) BE A MODEL READER. This is a direct service opportunity for you and your family. Volunteer to read to each other, read to clients, or sit and listen to children read to you in a PCC Community Wellness Center. Nearby locations include Oak Park, Austin, Berwyn and Melrose Park.
Bilingual? There are two locations that serve a mostly Latino community: PCC Salud (Belmont Craigin) and PCC South (Cicero Berwyn).
