Coutresy village of Oak Park
Parade to step off at 10 a.m. tomorrow
The ninth annual July 4th parade steps off at 10 a.m., tomorrow from Longfellow Park at Ridgeland Avenue and Adams Street. The parade will march north on Ridgeland to Augusta Street, turning east to disperse near Whittier Elementary School at Harvey Avenue. The annual fireworks display is scheduled to begin at dusk in the football stadium of Oak Park and River Forest High School, near East Avenue and Lake Street. For more information on the parade call 708-358-5407 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Buckle up, don't drink and drive, Police warn
Oak Park Police are out in force through July 7 looking for drunk and unbuckled drivers as part of a statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket enforcement effort. Officers will focus on late-night hours when statistics show a disproportionate number of traffic deaths involve drunk drivers and unbuckled motorists. To avoid a potential crash or an arrest for driving under the influence, police recommend designating a sober driver and not letting friends or family members drive drunk. Wearing a seat belt - which is the law in Illinois - is considered the best defense against an impaired driver. For more information on traffic safety in Oak Park, e-mail email@example.com.
Vehicle sticker renewal deadline nearing
The July 15 deadline to renew a vehicle sticker is less than two weeks away. Every Oak Park resident who owns or leases a vehicle is required to purchase and display a vehicle sticker annually by the deadline to avoid a $20 late fee. Failure to display a valid Village sticker by the deadline also may result in a $50 ticket. Residents whose vehicles already are registered with the Village can save 10 percent by renewing online at www.oak-park.us/onlineservices, rather than via mail or in person at Village Hall. Online renewals require the unique identification number included in the renewal notice. The ID number also can be retrieved on the web site using the e-mail address or telephone number included in the previous year's application. Sticker rates vary by type of vehicle. For more information, including rates for various types of vehicles, visit www.oak-park.us/parking, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call 708.358.PARK (7275), option 5.
