CHICAGO—July 24, 2014—Mark D. Tunney, has been appointed General Manager of the Union League Club of Chicago.
Tunney, 53, who has nearly 30 years experience in the hospitality and convention management and marketing industry, joined the Union League Club of Chicago 18 months ago as its Assistant General Manager.
He succeeds Jonathan McCabe, who retired after 22 years with the Club.
Earlier in his career, Tunney was Senior Vice President of Sales, Services and Special Events as well as Managing Director of Sales, where he led the sales for Choose Chicago, formerly the Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau.
From 2004 to 2007, Tunney was Director of Sales & Marketing for the Renaissance Chicago Hotel, Marriott International. He also held similar positions at two Starwood Hotels & Resorts' Chicago properties, the Westin Michigan Avenue and the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers as well as the Hyatt Regency Chicago Hotel.

A native of California, Tunney earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of San Diego and a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University Chicago. A meeting and exhibitions professional, Tunney is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) and holds a CEM, recognition that he is certified in exhibition management.
Tunney entered the hospitality industry in 1984 in San Diego and moved to Chicago five years later to join the sales department of Marriott International in Chicago. Among his posts were: Regional Director of Marriott National Accounts, Director of Sales at the Chicago Marriott and Director of Sales and Marketing for the Marriott Anaheim Hotel.
Tunney and his wife, Susanne, reside in Oak Park, Illinois with their three children. The Tunneys are active members of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago and serve on its Board of Advisors as well as the Gala of the Arts Committee which raises funds to support the social service agency's emergency services for children, families, adults and seniors in need in Cook and Lake Counties regardless of their race, religion or economic status.
