Students at Grace Lutheran School collected an estimated 10,500 pounds of food for the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry during their annual Walkathon and Food Drive on Wednesday, May 21. Kristi Braun, Community Program Manager for the Food Pantry, said she and some Grace school parents filled four vans with food donations.

Principal Bill Koehne said, "The response from households along our route was remarkable. Thank you to all the River Forest residents who participated by leaving food donations on their front steps for our students to pick up."

The Walkathon also raised more than $19,000 for the school, from friends and family members who pledged to support individual students. All Grace students, from preschool through eighth grade, participated in the Walkathon, covering distances from one to seven miles, based on their age. They loaded wagons with food donations as they walked. Students, teachers and parent volunteers enjoyed lunch outside on the Concordia field at the close of the event.

Grace Lutheran School, 7300 Division in River Forest, offers a high-quality Christian education to students from three-year-old preschool through eighth grade.
