Gable's Girls showcases six Clark Gable classics in a free film series, beginning June 19 at Oak Park Public Library

Oak Park, IL— Film historian Doug Deuchler presents six classic Clark Gable films from Hollywood's Golden Age, the 1930s, at Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake St., weekly on Thursdays, June 19 through July 24. All films are at 2 pmand will be followed by discussion.
 
Clark Gable's masculine presence enlivened 67 movies throughout his career. To millions, he was Rhett Butler; Gone with the Wind's darkly handsome, cynical, irresistible rogue. With Gable's Girls, Deuchler showcases six films in which Gable played opposite some of the era's most popular actresses - from Jean Harlow and Myrna Loy to Joan Crawford and Loretta Young. Everyone is welcome to view and discuss these classics.
 
June 19: Dancing Lady - An attractive burlesque dancer is rescued from jail by a millionaire playboy. Starring Joan Crawford. (1933, 92 minutes)

June 26Red Dust - The owner of a rubber plantation in Southeast Asia becomes involved with the wife of one of his employees. Starring Jean Harlow and Mary Astor. (1932, 83 minutes) 

July 3Wife vs. Secretary - The wife of a publisher believes her husband's relationship with his attractive secretary is more than professional. Starring Myrna Loy and Jean Harlow. (1936, 88 minutes)

July 10It Happened One Night - Celebrate the 80th anniversary of the film, in which a spoiled, runaway heiress is helped by a reporter looking for a story. The picture won five Oscars, including one for both Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. (1934, 105 minutes)

July 17San Francisco - A roguish gambling hall proprietor falls for a demure young singer during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Starring Jeanette MacDonald. (1936, 115 minutes)

July 24The Call Of The Wild - During the Alaskan Gold Rush, a prospector's luck changes when he buys a sled dog that's part wolf and rescues a woman whose husband is missing. Starring Loretta Young. (1935, 89 minutes)
 
The Main Library is wheelchair accessible and offers two free hours of parking in the attached underground garage.
