Unless its Vito Corleone following Don Fanucci high above the Feast of Saint Rocco in Godfather II, a baseball fan watching a Cubs game perched across the street from Wrigley Field or having to call somebody to fix our own, we don't normally notice or give rooftops much thought.
Recently, though, kids were discovered jumping from the train tracks onto the roof of the newly renovated Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex (set for its grand opening this Saturday, June 14, from noon to 3 p.m.)
An accident waiting to happen? That's what we thought, too.
According to Diane Stanke, the Park District of Oak Park's director of marketing and customer service, the roof jumpers were immediately detected by a security system at the RCRC and the park district is working with the Union Pacific Railroad to install a fence along the train embankment to prevent any future incidents. The fence should be installed in time for the grand opening
