David and Lee Neubecker were married last Saturday at Unity Temple, and the event trumped Trump in the Sneed column in the Sun-Times last week, which got short shrift by comparison. Sneed's banner headline was "Dad and Daddy are getting married."
It was a family affair because the family lobbied together to make this marriage legal in Illinois. Daughter Braiden, in fact, wrote a heartfelt plea that Wednesday Journal ran in Viewpoints on March 20, 2013. It began, "Love is important! It doesn't matter who people love, as long as they are happy." Sneed quoted from that opinion, which was eventually included in legal briefs filed with the U.S. Supreme Court.
At the wedding last weekend, Braiden and her brother Michael, hand in hand, preceded their fathers. The ceremony reportedly included a sing-along, followed by a Hawaiian luau. Gov. Pat Quinn couldn't make the ceremony, but reportedly called in his regrets personally.
