Summer is finally here and the River Forest Library has a packed schedule of programs that will keep boredom at bay. In addition to the summer reading program for all ages (kick-off party is on June 5, from 2:30-6 PM), adults, teens and children have a wide range of programs to choose from that are fun, entertaining and will keep those minds active.
In addition to our summer reading program for adults, there will be Coffee Mondays (7/6 & 8/3), and Computer Learning Labs on Wednesdays at 10 AM (6/3 – 7/22). The Foreign Film Forum will be on Saturday, June 13th, July 11th and August 8th at 2 PM.
There will 2 fun food programs that will help you take advantage of seasonal foods. On June 13th at 11 AM, the library will offer "Get Inspired: Fruit and Vegetable Creations" and on August 1st at 2 PM, "Get You Jam On" will demonstrate how to preserve summer fruits.
Not to be missed, the annual Dooley Brothers concert will be on Friday, July 17 at 7:30 PM. These River Forest natives perform a blend of Folk, Jazz, Irish, Swing, Calypso and good old Rock & Roll.
For teens, there will be all kinds of neat, new, super programs. There will be supernova t-shirts, super stitches crochet, super summer trivia, super soap, just to name a few. Try your hand at crochet, make cool stuff out of comic books, learn how to apply costume makeup, experience some Minecraft madness, and see a BMX bike show. There's just too much happening to list here, so visit the library's website at www.rflib.org for details. Go to our event calendar where you can register for programs.
There are endless activities for children at the River Forest Library all summer long, including weekly art activities, weekly story times, Minecraft madness, and tons of special "super" fun programs.
Some highlights include comic book creations, a superhero party, Dave Dinaso's Traveling World of Reptiles, Princess training camp, super soaker watercolor art, and a super duper drive-in movie, where kids will design their own cars out of boxes and enjoy a superhero themed movie. The summer reading program will wrap up with a live musical celebration with Little Miss Ann, on Friday, 7/31 at 6:30 PM. Again, there is too much to list here, so go to www.rflib.org and visit the event calendar so you don't miss out on the fun.
If the special programs aren't enough to keep you entertained this summer, the library's fabulous collections are at your fingertips. Don't forget about reading for pleasure, enjoying a good movie with your family, trying out some new summer recipes, planning a trip, or doing a DIY project. There are endless resources available at your library and they are free!
