By John Hubbuch
Our community really misses Mike Kelly, a capitalist with a heart. Mike you will recall owned Park National Bank. When I say owned I mean all of it---not the most shares, not a majority of shares---all of them. As a result he could run his bank as he pleased.
And he pleased to give low or no interest loans and gifts to many area non-profits and do-gooders. Unlike Oprah, he did it without fanfare or publicity. When his bank sank in the Economic Flood of 2008 his munificence stopped. And now each month brings news of a charity impacted by that loss. Confidentiality concerns makes me keep my big mouth shut, but suffice it to say, I know at least 3 organizations who face a considerably tough futures without his help. I'm sure there are many, many more.
The anonomous nature of Mr. Kelly's largesse obscures the significance of the loss. Very bad. Very sad.
