Orchesis Dance Company will present its annual Spring Dance Concert, "Orchesis Under the Big Top," featuring the seventy member company performing dances that center around a circus theme. Performances will be held in the main auditorium of OPRF, 201 N. Scoville, on Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 8 at 3 p.m.
The Concert features work by senior choreographers Katie Williams, Ariella Chavarria and Sarah Green, as well as work by juniors Claire Kissinger and Tori Seitleman. The Spring Concert also features work by guest choreographers Katy Kempen, Alka Nayar and Gina Sigismondi. Faculty works by Orchesis co-directors Lucy Riner and Ann Petroliunas and dance faculty member Jennifer Kanwischer will also be featured on the program.
This year's Orchesis Concert also falls on the weekend of the Illinois High School Dance Festival, which coincidentally will be hosted by OPRF for the second time since Lucy Riner became dance program director. The Festival will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, with a welcome show performed by OPRF's Orchesis Dance Company. Approximately 550 students from throughout the area will spend the day at OPRF participating in a variety of master dance classes, as well as enjoying a professional performance by modern dance company Same Planet Different World Dance and a gala performance by selected high school student companies at 2:50 p.m. This performance is free to the public and will be held in OPRF's main auditorium.
Orchesis Dance Company is composed of advanced dance students, freshmen through seniors, who attend OPRF. Orchesis presents two dance concerts during the school year that provide a large variety of dance styles. The dance company also participates in different activities and festivals outside of school, and is available to perform within the community.
