Come join other parents along with PCI Parent Coaches in an interactive session with Dr Douglas Gentile, who will describe the scientific research on both the positive and negative effects of media on children's health and brain development.
Participants will learn how the media makes their effects without our conscious awareness, including advertising and media violence. In addition, discussion will cover the latest research on video games, attention problems and school performance.
Discussion with PCI Parent Coaches Gloria DeGaetano, CEO-PCI and Sheila Wenger will take place in the afternoon, leading discusison on core concepts discussed by Dr. Gentile and focusing on practical application for supporting moms and dads to parent well in our media/digital world.

* Dr Douglas Gentile is a research scientist, author, award-winning educator, and assistant professor of developmental psychology at Iowa State University. He is the editor of the book Media Violence and Children (2003, raeger Press), and co-author of the book Violent Video Game Effects on Children and Adolescents: Theory, Research, and Public Policy (2007, Oxford University Press). Dr. Gentile runs the Media Research Lab at Iowa State University where he conducts research on media's impact on children and adults.
