Hello Oak Park! We at Oak Park Public Library are looking forward to this new way of connecting with you!
We'll use our blog to share fantastic stuff to READ, VIEW, LISTEN to, and PLAY.
Coming soon: Music to check out in preparation for a summer concert season… Books for bird watchers…
We'll post about exciting things HAPPENING AT THE LIBRARY.
Like, have you heard we cut lighting energy by more than half with new LED lights in our parking garage?
Did you know we now have wireless printing that makes it easy for you to receive a "fax" at the library? It's true. And you can also print to our desktop printers from your mobile devices and from equipment in your home or office.
Hopefully you've heard that your next Oak Park Public Library card could be your last. Your new non-expiring library card will be valid as long as you live in Oak Park.
We also have great summer volunteer opportunities for teens and kids! Applications are now available – turn them in by May 18.
Attend our Teen Job Workshop Series and prepare to ace the job interview, pick up job etiquette, and consider ways to manage the money you earn. The four-part series is free and meets weekly, starting Monday, May 7. Call 708-452-3440 to register.
The traveling exhibit "Leaving Czechoslovakia" presents the stories of 20th-century Czech and Slovak émigrés to America in their own words. It will be at the Main Library May 8 through May 27. The after-hours opening reception on Friday, May 11 will be hosted by the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library under the auspices of Dana Hunatova, Consul General of the Czech Republic in Chicago.
We're hosting a Book Group Open House on Thursday, May 17 at 7:00 pm at the Main Library. Members of local book groups are invited! Get insider tips on recommended book lists, review sources, and how librarians select great books for discussion. Plus, we want to hear your ideas about how the library can support book groups into the future.
We'll also host a Scrabble Tournament for ages 6+ on Saturday, May 19.
And we'll ask for your FEEDBACK as we plan for the future.
This spring our Trustees will be talking with some of you at educational, civic, cultural, and business meetings in Oak Park. We want to hear about organizational goals and discuss how the library can help you meet these goals.
What will the citizens of Oak Park need from the library during the next 5, 10, or 20 years? Take a moment to let us know.
You can find more library news and resources on our website at oppl.org.
