And one from the other side of the life ledger from Paul Oppenheim (our regular running columnist in WJ Sports):
"Barbara and I were at a party on May 24 in River Forest to celebrate our niece's husband Steve Kleps' Ph.D. in engineering. It was in their small home on Lathrop, along with about 30 family members and friends. Our niece, Rebecca, was quite pregnant, but the expected birth of their third child was still a few days away.
"As guests arrived and food and beverages were being consumed, Rebecca said she felt a few twinges but would be fine.
"She disappeared upstairs, but the party continued with few people realizing she was missing from the group. Soon the midwife and partner arrived, and it was clear a major event was occurring upstairs as the party continued downstairs. Everyone realized what was happening when they heard a baby cry from upstairs.
"Everyone is fine, and John Robert is too. It was a helluva party."
