On May 17, Nicor Gas representatives will present the West Cook YMCA with a large check for $25,000, in recognition of over 500 Oak Park residents who participated in Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program as part of the Community Challenge.
The money earned from the Community Challenge will help the West Cook YMCA operate their building at a higher level of energy efficiency making them a greener neighbor within the community and helping them to save money on energy consumed by their members and staff.
The Community Challenge is a new initiative, offered through the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program, to help foster energy efficiency awareness and action within local communities. The Challenge began February 1, 2013, and ran through April 30, 2013. During that period, each homeowner or business that participated in select Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Programs earned $50 toward their community's final prize. Nicor Gas worked with the West Cook YMCA and the Village of Oak Park to promote the program.
The Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program is designed to help residential, commercial and industrial customers with consumer education and financial incentives on energy efficient products and services. Improving the energy efficiency of homes and businesses means less energy is required to maintain a comfortable environment – and reducing energy consumption can help save money. Energy efficiency also can benefit the community by putting more money in people's pockets to spend at area businesses, contributing to the local economy and job growth.
