A two-part This American Life series on WBEZ called "Harper High School," reported by Linda Lutton, Ben Calhoun and Oak Parker Alex Kotlowitz, has won a 2013 Peabody Award.

The team of reporters spent five months at Harper High School, located in the West Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, uncovering stories of a community dealing with the causes and effects of gun violence.

Kotlowitz, author and co-producer of The Interrupters, a documentary on efforts to reduce violence on the West and South Sides, reported Act Two — highlighting a student named Devonte who transferred from Harper, and later returned, after he accidentally shot and killed his 14-year-old brother.

Listen to both parts of the series below.
