On Monday, April 23, the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association installed new officers to its Board
of Directors. Dorothy Brown, Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court, presided over the swearing-in
ceremony held at the club's historic landmark building at 178 Forest Avenue.
Before the installation, Ms. Brown spoke to the audience of ninety about the importance of education
and applauded the Association's mission of learning and giving.
The Nineteenth Century Charitable Association has a rich history in Oak Park as the Nineteenth Century
Club dating back to 1891. The women's suffrage movement and the founding of the Oak Park & River
Forest Day Nursery are part of its legacy. The Association is dedicated to fostering education through
onsite programs and college scholarships, as well as supporting charitable endeavors in the community
with financial support and space-sharing arrangements.
