Opening weekend a hit for Oak Park opera club

Newly established opera club, Verismo, hit the ground running this weekend with its opening performance of Mozart's Magic Flute at the Arts Center of Oak Park, 200 N. Oak Park Ave. Managing Director, Yasmeen Schuller, said the two performances on Friday and Sunday brought in over 700 audience members.

Mozart, played by Matt Dyson, narrated the Magic Flute performance and invited audience members to participate with glow sticks, bells and ribbons.

Verismo's next performance, Puccini's Madama Butterfly, will be held on Friday and Sunday, Jul. 29 and Jul. 31. To reserve tickets, visit

This performance was amazing.... really down-to-earth for an opera! It was funny and super kid-friendly. My daughter, age 9, was mesmerized by the singing. They seeded the audience with cast members who would... surprise... join in singing with the other performers on stage. A really brilliant and well thought out performance.
