State Representative Tom Cross (R-Oswego) and the Illinois Legislative Diabetes Caucus are awarding the first Stand Up/Stand Out Award for excellence for implementing the Students with Diabetes Care Act into everyday education to Horace Mann Elementary in Oak Park on March 19th. State Representative Mike Tryon (R-Crystal Lake) and State Representative Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs), founding members of the Illinois Legislative Diabetes Caucus, will be in attendance.

Details of the event are as follows:
  • Time: 1 p.m.
  • Date: Monday, March 19th
  • Location: Horace Mann Elementary School
921 North Kenilworth Avenue Oak Park, Il 60302
  • Contact: Leader Cross’s office at (815) 254-0000

The University of Chicago created and chose the recipients of The Stand Up/Stand Award. Horace Mann was nominated by the parents of a kindergartener because the teachers, administrators and the school nurses have created and implemented a plan that provides all the necessary care, but does not disrupt the educational experience of their students. This is a great photo opportunity to get state representatives and senators with the family, teachers and school officials who have made this law a success.
