Hubbuch's Oak Park Business Report

So I needed to get some cash yesterday. My bank is Northern Trust and their closest ATM's are downtown and Oak Brook, so I have to pay a sevice fee. I can report that Chase now charges 5 bucks to get money up from 3 dollars. Quite a jump--- a 67% increase. Ridiculous.I'm not paying.  I may need to get a new bank.

That little Minou Restaurant on Marion looks like it closed. Now I never went in there even though I walked past it hundreds of times. There was always an older Oriental woman sittng alone . I'm not sure I ever saw a customer. I speculated that there was an opium den in back. Now I guess I'll never know. Too bad.

The fireplace store on Madison is shuttered. A posted notice references Sherriff Tom Dart is on the case for back taxes. The store itself looks completely operational except it is closed. I hope it re-opens. That this place and Minou are apparently finished is a reminder that the failure of our economy had had and will continue to have bad consequences. I guess we are witnessing the results of "the creative destruction of capitalism." It's a sad sight.

The two entities you mentioned as seemingly closed are not the result of sour economic times. You really should have checked out these places as I did. How they stayed open this long, dunno. It was their time. We all have our time.

It has to be hard for cafes when there are coffee places every 50 yards or so downtown. But there are silver linings: this is the Golden Age for dogs. The former grocery store on Chicago Avenue is now a doggie day-care operation. Dog-focused businesses - along with bankruptcy legal aid - are booming.
