The chairman of Rush Oak Park Hospital's Department of Surgery was selected as one of the top 19 sports medicine specialists in the country, according to a new report in Orthopedics This Week.
Brian Cole, MD, sports medicine and cartilage restoration orthopedic surgeon at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush, was appointed chairman of the Department of Surgery at Rush Oak Park Hospital in 2011 and has been seeing patients in Oak Park since he joined the medical staff in 1997. As team physician for the Chicago Bulls, last year Dr. Cole performed knee surgery to repair Derrick Rose's torn ACL. He is also co-team physician for the Chicago White Sox and DePaul University, and a professor at Rush University Medical Center, where he is section head of the Cartilage Research Program in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He is widely known for his expertise in shoulder, elbow and knee surgery.
"While I am honored to be selected for this distinction, this list could have easily included any of our specialists at Midwest Orthopedics who I would trust with the treatment of my own family," said Dr. Cole.
Orthopedics This Week compiled the list of top sports medicine specialists through telephone surveys with leaders in the field. In those surveys, Dr. Cole's peers cited his leadership as well as the importance of the research and innovations he has contributed to sports medicine.
